Activities

Sailing Days

As the lake at the Memorial Park is open to the public, we do not have exclusive use of the water, but we are the only club to hold a licence from Canterbury City Council to sail, and hold public events here.

We encourage all boaters, members and non members, to use the water and join us in ensuring the lake is kept to its usual high standard for all to use.

The club’s sailing days are Wednesday and Sunday throughout the year, weather permitting. All types of radio controlled model boats may be sailed except those powered by I.C. engines, with the exception of Club 500 fast electric models.

This is to preserve the peaceful ambience of the lake and its wildlife.

Club Nights

Club nights are held on the last Thursday of every month at the Hampton Pier Yacht Club excluding December and January. The November meeting is given over to our Annual General Meeting.

We occasionally have speakers, Bring and Buy sales that are held on alternate months of the year, and there is a licensed bar on the premises. A raffle is held every month, with the proceeds going towards the club funds.

Meetings start at 7:30pm prompt, with  free parking is available in the Hampton Public Car Park.

Competitions

We hold several annual competitions for members. These are for tug towing, yacht sailing and Club 500 races held at the club waters. We attend many community based events including a public exhibition at Whitstable RNLI with three classes:- Class A for models built and finished by the member, Class B for models that have been purchased, and Class C for best Naval model. Winners are voted for by members of the public.

Trophies for each category are awarded and presented at the Annual General Meeting.

Exhibitions

In addition to our annual exhibition at RNLI Whitstable, we exhibit at Whitstable Harbour Day, and Southern Model Show.

We also attend regattas and open days with neighbouring clubs.

Regattas

During the year we hold three open regattas at the Memorial Park. An open sail regatta and competition for sailing boats in July,  and in August as part of the Herne Bay Festival, we hold another open and free sailing regatta for all vessel types, which many other local model boat clubs attend. A plaque is awarded for the best model.

Our busy Summer season concludes in October with our “Lights on the Lake” event which is also open to visitors.

For details of all these events please check our Events and News Diary.

Fundraising
We raise funds throughout the year for the Whitstable RNLI through various club raffles and activities.
