As the the Lake at the Memorial Park is open to the public, we do not have exclusive use of the water, but we are the only Club to hold a licence from Canterbury City Council to sail, and hold public events here. We encourage all boaters, members and non members, to use the water and join us in ensuring the Lake is kept to its usual high standard for all to use. The club’s sailing days are Wednesday and Sunday through out the year, weather permitting. All types of boats / models may be sailed except those powered by I.C. engines and (with the exception of Club 500 models), Fast Electrics. This is to preserve the peaceful ambiance of the Lake and its wildlife.
Club nights are held on the last Thursday of every month except December & January, at the Hampton Pier Yacht Club. The November meeting is given over to the AGM. We occasionally have speakers, quizzes and bring and buy sales, there is a licensed bar, and of course a raffle. We meet at 19.30 and free parking is available in the Hampton Public Car Park.
We hold several annual competitions for members. These are for tug towing, steering, yacht and Club 500 racing held at the Lake at Herne Bay, and a public exhibition at Whitstable RNLI for three classes:- Class A for models made & finished by the member, Class B for models that have been “bought in” and RN Trophy for the best Naval Vessel. Winners are voted for by members of the public.
Trophies are awarded and presented at the AGM.
In addition to our annual exhibition at RNLI Whitstable, we usually exhibit at Brighton Model World, Whitstable Harbour Day, S outhern Model Show and we attend open days at neighbouring clubs.
We hold three open regatta’s at the Memorial Park. An open sail regatta and competion for sailing boats in July, in August, as part of the Herne Bay Festival, an open, free sailing Regatta for all types of vessels and in October our “Lights on the Lake” is also open house to visitors.
