Another report with photo’s from Carl at this years Vikings Rally. Always a well attended & popular show with, usually good weather. An excellent venue with SEA VIEWS while we play boats!! Over to Carl…….

What a pleasant, crisp, clear, sunny morning, with a veil of mist gently sitting over the River Wantsum as Leon and I headed to Thanet just after 7am on Sunday. We were by no means first on site at the Ramsgate boating pool though, having been beaten by Southend and Kent Model Boat Display Team and of course the hosts. Our usual spot on the grass adjacent to the café had been secured once again with 12m (39 ft) of display space. We made full use of this along with the help of “Tugs R Us”.

The day kicked off at 10am with free sailing then to have the peace broken by the first of the Club 500 races at 10:30, a closely fought “fun” race with myself coming in second – there were no casualties..?

The calm soon returned with boats of all shapes and sizes taking to the water once again, the most impressive vessel at this year’s event was a visiting model from Germany – SAR Hermann Marwede (German life boat) 1.5m (5 ft) long with an impressive turn of speed. The owner had come over especially for this event with his stand at the end of the Dover MBA gazebo.

The weather remained kind to us all day with a gentle breeze coming in from the sea – this enabled us to dry out a lot of the kit from last weekend, a very wet Regatta.

Second round of “fun” club 500 was one by yours truly, again there were no casualties, obviously we were not racing hard enough! Although in my post-race celebrations I turned over and needed rescuing.

As usual the Mayor of Ramsgate took to the water in a pedalo being towed by one of John Boyd’s tugs, Leon then took to the controls and towed himself round!

A very enjoyable day as ever and our thanks goes to Ramsgate Vikings for the invite, good fun, good times, good weather.

On now to the Southern Model Show at Headcorn, 8th & 9th Sept –
