A report and photo’s of this years event from Carl.

“The day started off overcast but dry, setup went well thanks to the help of the “Regatta Committee” setup crew. I was on site at 7am to start unloading shortly followed by Southend and Kent Model Boat display team. By 7:30am the western side of the lake was a hive of activity.  Bacon rolls were laid on by Helen for the set-up crew with remaining members turning up from 8:30am ready to organise the display.

We had a good show with over 120 boats of all shapes and sizes, 2 Subs, 1 Hovercraft, 3 Tanks, 2 Ducks, and a Seagull…

The cloud thickened and the wind got up by the start of the show at 10am although all was still dry, club 500 ran at 11am with 6 runners, I ran in to the back of tim on lap 4 and was out for the count along with another visiting boat that lost its lid.

The show was really busy with good  public attendance, however this was short lived when the heavens opened at around 11:30. Light rain to start then it gradually became more persistent and at 12:30 it was decided that we would close the show as we had heard that high winds and torrential rain was on its way and we wanted visitors to pack away safely.

We have had several years of good weather so cannot complain, see you all next year, maybe bigger and better you never know…”

Best visiting boat was judged to be Peter Boyds Lifeboat. By the time the decision was made, things were packing up & no photo taken, sorry Peter!
